A RARE SET OF FOUR LARGE SNAKE HANDLED CAST IRON URNS ATTRIBUTED TO THE HANDYSIDE FOUNDRY, CIRCA 1860 Lobed rims above entwined serpent handles that run around the underside of the rim, gadrooned bowls Each 53cm high, 73.5cm wide across the handles This distinctive form of snake handled urn is often attributed to Val D'Osne however the construction- notably to the screw mounted separate rim tops- is more characteristic of the urns produced by the Leeds foundry established by Andrew Handyside.
