A quiet path - Gary Westall

A quiet path by Gary Westall Painting 11.2 x 14.0 :: I am standing on a narrow path that winds its way through the lush green of the forest. The trees tower close above me their crowns built up with impasto brushstrokes layer upon layer as if the green were breathing. The light breaks through the dense vegetation only hesitantly lingering in bright spots between the leaves. The paint is not smooth but lies physically on the picture carrier: rough and alive. Every brushstroke remains visible and tells of movement of time of a moment of pause. The path continues slightly curved and without a destination. It invites you to follow it to lose yourself or simply to stand still. In this painting I am not concerned with a specific place but with the feeling of being in the middle of the forest: with tranquility depth and the quiet promise that something unknown opens up behind the next patch of green.
