A LARGE CEREMONIAL TEXTILE LUCKNOW, INDIA, LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY The red ground embroidered with silver and yellow thread, incorporating small mirrors, within a central field depicting a formal arched and floral pattern, encased by a flora scroll border 250cm long, 123cm wide Ceremonial textiles like this were used during the wedding ceremonies in the Royal household of the Lucknow region, for the bride, groom and family members to sit on during the ceremonial rituals. Condition Report: Has undergone conservation with later backing that overlaps as boarder to the edged, as ins not uncommon. There has been some perishing to the more fragile dies, with consequent losses to flower head thought-out. Various repairs, including shaped diagonal across main field, and another horizontal. Some variants to colour due to light exposure. Fold and crease marks.
