A GILT-BRONZE CHARIOT FITTING HAN DYNASTY 铜鎏金战车部件 汉 the cast fitting of open flowerhead form 13cm long PROVENANCE: Formerly in the Collection of the Late Desmond Gure (1905-1970). Desmond Gure was an English dental surgeon who went on to become an Honorary Consulting Dental Surgeon to the City of London Maternity Hospital, alongside running his own dental practice in Cornhill, London. He developed an interest in Chinese jade during World War II and became a well respected authority on early jades, his expertise extended to other areas of interest in early Chinese ceramics and metalwork too. He became a member of the Oriental Ceramic Society, and wrote many articles for the society on early jades, lending his own collection of jades to the Arts of the Sung Dynasty exhibition in 1960. Most of Gures collection was sold to Dr. Arthur M. Sackler in 1968.
