A FINE GEORGE III MAHOGANY AND FUSTIC BANDED PEMBROKE TABLE ATTRIBUTED TO INCE & MAYHEW, CIRCA 1765 With gilt brass mounts to the legs and mahogany drawer linings 71cm high, 43.5cm wide, 68.5cm deep The overall outline of this Pembroke table combined with the unusual gilt brass handle to the central drawer is most probably attributable to the cabinet making partnership of Ince & Mayhew. Two tables with identical handles have sold at auction: one with rounded flaps sold at Christie's New York, Two Distinguished American Collections: The Estate of the Hon. Noreen Drexel, Newport, R.I., The Estate of Van Cliburn, Fort Worth, TX (3446), 5th March 2014, lot 504 ($3,750) and one with rectangular flaps, formerly in the James Thursby-Pelham collection, sold at Christie's London, Objects of Art Fine English Furniture Eastern Rugs and Carpets: The Collection of Mrs. Sotheby Bird, 5th April 1973, lot 40. Another similar table, also with the same handle, is illustrated in P. Macquoid, The Age of Satinwood, London, 1908, p. 92, figs. 83-84 'The Property of Marquess of Salisbury'.
