A FINE AND VERY RARE MANTEL TIMEPIECE FOR THE CHINESE MARKET SIGNED WM. CARPENTER, LONDON; LATE 18TH CENTURY 铜鎏金马型时钟 十八世纪晚期 署WM. CARPENTER DIAL: 3 in. (8cm), white enamel, regulator type with concentric minutes, subsidiaries for hours, age of the moon, running seconds and fifths of a second, red and clear paste-set bezel. MOVEMENT: large verge watch signed Wm. Carpenter, London, pierced and engraved balance cock, foliate engraved backplate. CASE: the drum mounted on the back of a galloping horse, the rectangular base with balustrading and parquet floor 29.5cm high NOTE: Two clocks in The Imperial Palace Museum, Beijing have identical horses and saddles on which they stand. Another clock has an identical dial but with slightly different hands.
