A CARVED LIMESTONE DUAL FACETED SUNDIAL DATED 1859 With a cast iron gnomon, concave geometric carving to the sides, initialled and dated ‘WP 1859’, vacant recesses to sides 43 x 43cm overall, the stone 30 x 30cm The use of multi-dial sundials reached its apogee of expression in Scotland where polyhedral sundials are rare, but not uncommon. The more restrained twin dial arrangement of this example, vertical and horizontal dials, is more characteristic of English dials and it has been suggested that this may come from the Welsh borders.
