20th C. Chinese Pottery Vase - Celadon Lotus Design

East Asia, China, late Qing to Republic period, ca. 20th century CE. A graceful celadon-glazed pottery vase, its baluster form elegantly rising to a flared rim with scalloped edges. The surface is adorned with a lotus flower motif in low relief, the petals unfolding across the rounded body in rhythmic symmetry. The soft green glaze pools within the carved recesses, enhancing the floral design with subtle depth and tonal variation. The glaze bears a fine network of crackle, a hallmark of the celadon tradition, imparting an impression of both age and refinement. The lotus, a central symbol in Chinese art and spirituality, is associated with purity, enlightenment, and rebirth. Its presence on this vessel suggests a decorative object not only admired for its beauty but also resonant with layers of cultural meaning. Size: 8.5" Diameter x 14.3" H (21.6 cm x 36.3 cm) The combination of stylized lotus petals and lustrous glaze evokes earlier Song and Yuan dynasty celadon wares, while its 20th century craftsmanship reflects the enduring appeal of these classical aesthetics in modern Chinese ceramic production. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 197957
