2024 x2 Giuseppe Rinaldi Nebbiolo

Langhe Nebbiolo 2024 vintage produced by three of the most iconic, historic, and traditional artisanal Barolo producers: Giuseppe Rinaldi, Bartolo Mascarello, and Comm. G.B. Burlotto. 1. Giuseppe Rinaldi – Langhe Nebbiolo 2024 (First pair on the left) Tasting Notes: Appearance: Lively ruby red with garnet reflections, clear and bright. Nose: Frank, floral, and austere aromatic profile. Crisp notes of dog rose, violet, and fresh cherry emerge alongside hints of aromatic herbs, wet earth, licorice root, and a subtle rustic, spicy touch typical of Citrico's (Giuseppe Rinaldi) signature style. Palate: Taut, agile, and remarkably fresh on the palate. It features a vibrant, responsive, and well-defined tannic structure, with a beautiful savory vein and a long, clean, food-friendly finish. Winery History (Giuseppe Rinaldi): Foundation and Origins: The winery's history began in the late 19th century with Battista Rinaldi, a farmer in Barolo, but it was under Giuseppe Rinaldi (affectionately known as "Citrico") that the estate became a living legend of the traditionalist movement. Traditionalist Philosophy: Giuseppe Rinaldi was a fierce opponent of trends, oak barriques, and technological shortcuts, advocating instead for fermentation in large wooden vats, long macerations, and the blending of different crus. Today: Following Giuseppe's passing in 2018, the winery is led with extraordinary devotion to tradition by his daughters Marta (winemaker) and Carlotta (agronomist), preserving the estate's unmatched prestige. 2. Bartolo Mascarello – Langhe Nebbiolo 2024 (Middle pair) Tasting Notes: Appearance: Pale, translucent ruby red of great brilliance. Nose: Extremely elegant and refined bouquet. Aromas of small red fruits (raspberry, wild strawberry, redcurrant), fresh violet, rose, face powder, mint, and delicate nuances of sweet spices emerge. Palate: A concentration of grace and poise on the palate. The sip is silky and seamless, characterized by ultra-fine tannins and a measured yet refreshing acidity. The finish is long, clean, and of aristocratic finesse. Winery History (Bartolo Mascarello): Origins: Founded in 1918 by Giulio Mascarello in Barolo, the winery became an absolute benchmark under the leadership of his son Bartolo Mascarello, one of the most iconic and charismatic figures in Italian wine history. Resistance and Identity: Bartolo is famous for his passionate stance in defense of traditional Barolo (including his iconic No Barrique, No Berlusconi label), refusing single-cru bottlings and maintaining a single flagship Barolo crafted by blending the estate's historical vineyards (Cannubi, San Lorenzo, Rué, and Rocche di La Morra). Today: The estate is run by his daughter Maria Teresa Mascarello, who continues her family's artisanal philosophy with rigor, sensitivity, and mastery. 3. Comm. G.B. Burlotto – Langhe Nebbiolo 2024 (Pair on the right) Tasting Notes: Appearance: Bright ruby red with delicate garnet hues. Nose: Expressive, spicy, and floral bouquet. Dominated by notes of black pepper (characteristic of the Verduno terroir), dried rose, sour cherry, aromatic herbs, and a distinct mineral backbone. Palate: Dynamic, highly drinkable, and refined on the palate. The tannins are soft and well-integrated; the structure is light yet deep, featuring a pleasant savoriness that constantly invites another sip. Winery History (Comm. G.B. Burlotto): Historic Foundation: Founded in the second half of the 19th century in Verduno by Giovan Battista Burlotto, this estate is one of the oldest in the Langhe. Burlotto was named "Official Supplier to the Royal House of Savoy" and was among the first to sell Barolo in glass bottles rather than barrels or demijohns. The Monvigliero Cru and Foot-Crushing: Burlotto achieved world fame with the Monvigliero cru, historically crafted using whole-cluster foot-treading and extremely long maceration times. Today: The winery is brilliantly led by Fabio Alessandria (owner and descendant of Burlotto), who has elevated the estate back to the pinnacle of global critical acclaim through wines of extraordinary finesse and terroir fidelity.
