Banfi – Fonte alla Selva Gran Selezione 2022 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG – Castellina Lot of 6 bottles of 0.75 L Fonte alla Selva Gran Selezione 2022 represents one of the top expressions of Banfi's Chianti Classico production. It originates in the Castellina in Chianti area, in the historical heart of the denomination, and is produced by selecting only a portion of the best grapes from the Fonte alla Selva vineyards. The Gran Selezione classification identifies the highest level of the Chianti Classico qualitative pyramid and, in the case of Fonte alla Selva, Banfi combines modern winemaking techniques with the territory's tradition. The Territory The grapes come from Banfi’s Castellina in Chianti vineyards, characterized by sandy-clay soils and shallow depth. Sangiovese is clearly predominant, accompanied by a selection of traditional Chianti Classico varieties. The yield declared by the estate for the 2022 vintage is about 65 quintals per hectare. The 2022 Vintage 2022 was characterized by a dry spring and a particularly hot and dry summer. The rains that arrived between late August and early September were decisive, preventing the grapes from dehydration. The good thermal excursions subsequently favored aromatic development and the preservation of acidity. The harvest of the Sangiovese destined for Fonte alla Selva began on 21 September 2022. Vinification and Aging Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 25 and 30 °C. The wine is then aged for 14 months in French oak casks of 60 and 90 hl, a choice that allows the wood to support the wine without overpowering the Sangiovese’s identity and the terroir. Organoleptic Characteristics Fonte alla Selva Gran Selezione 2022 presents a ruby red color with light garnet reflections. On the nose it shows an intense, fruity profile, with hints of redcurrant and blackberry, accompanied by elegant licorice notes. On the palate the tannins are soft and silky, well integrated with a marked freshness. The structure is lively, powerful and balanced, with a finish of excellent persistence. It is a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione endowed, according to Banfi itself, with great aging potential. Awards for the 2022 Vintage The 2022 vintage has also earned an important international recognition: 94/100 – James Suckling The review highlights aromas of spices, ripe cherry, tobacco and crushed stone, along with good concentration, structure and persistence.
