Toutes les enchères / Véhicules / 1989 Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 – Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers

1989 Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 Rust-free Swiss import. Extensive mechanical refurbishment carried out by a Danish specialist in 2021. Exceptionally original and untouched, both mechanically and cosmetically. When the Peugeot 205 was introduced in the early 1980s, it became an important model in Peugeot’s small-car range. With its compact dimensions, low weight and modern design, the 205 quickly became a central part of the model line-up. After 15 years of production, more than 5.2 million examples had been built, making the 205 one of Peugeot’s most-produced models. For car enthusiasts, it was particularly the GTI version that attracted attention, and it became one of the best-known variants of the 205. The first 205 GTI was introduced in 1984 with a 1.6-litre engine and a low weight that gave the car a relatively high level of performance for its class. In 1986, the 1.9-litre version followed, giving the Volkswagen Golf GTI a French rival with a similar focus on engaging driving characteristics. The low weight and direct response to driver input created a close connection between the driver and the machinery of the 205 GTI. This remains true today and is part of the reason why the model continues to be sought after by enthusiasts. The auction’s 205 GTI is no exception. The odometer has passed 222,000 km, but the mileage is not reflected in its driving characteristics. This is due in no small part to an extensive mechanical overhaul carried out by a Danish specialist in 2021. The car has been thoroughly inspected with great respect for its originality, leaving the drivetrain in good working order and ready for many more kilometres. The car was imported to Denmark from Switzerland in 2008, and like many cars from that part of Europe, it is rust-free. Since arriving in Denmark, it has been kept dry and used exclusively during summer months. Unusually for a GTI of this era, it remains completely original and untouched, with no tuning, lowering or aftermarket styling. The half-leather seats have developed some creasing, but no significant tears, while the red carpets remain in good condition. The paintwork shows signs of use, but this only adds to the impression of an honest and genuine classic. The 205 GTI has always been a car designed first and foremost to be driven, and this example is no exception. It has recently passed its inspection, it is registered in Denmark and it is ready for another season on the road.
