18th / 19th-century wooden child’s potty chair – well-worn patina and rustic charm A small piece of furniture with a big story! This wooden child’s potty chair from the 18th or 19th century offers a special glimpse into daily family life of the past. The wide seat with a round opening, curved armrests and simple open back form a recognizable and characterful whole. The warm brown wood has a pronounced well-used surface. Rounded edges, visible joints and wear on the finish emphasize the history of use of this modest household piece. Potty chairs once combined two functions: a seat for the child and a provision for relieving themselves, with a pot under the opening in the seat. It is precisely such everyday objects that tell us a lot about living and upbringing in earlier times. Today this chair is a atmospheric collectible and decorative object. Beautiful in a rural interior, among old toys, or as part of a collection of historical everyday objects.
