1867 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-1. Rarity-2. Top 30 Variety.

1867 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-1. Rarity-2. Top 30 Variety. Repunched Date, Large/Small Date. MS-62 (PCGS). Brilliant apart from a few wisps of pale gold iridescence, this flashy Brilliant Uncirculated dollar allows full appreciation of lively mint luster. The finish is predominantly frosty, although direct lighting reveals modest semi-reflective tendencies in the fields. Boldly struck overall with superior eye appeal at the assigned grade level. Scarce to rare in all grades - the Mint State population is on the order of 40 to 50 coins - the 1867 is a key date Liberty Seated dollar with a limited mintage of 46,900 circulation strikes. This is yet another export issue struck from bullion largely obtained from imports, most examples destroyed through melting in Asia, either after direct export or after going through the London silver market. The 1867 is widely regarded as the rarest Philadelphia Mint circulation strike Liberty Seated dollar issue of the With Motto design type. The OC-1 circulation strike die pairing of this issue is an interesting Large/Small Date variety caused by the initial use of a date logotype punch intended for quarter dollar dies. The present example is an early die state with repunching readily evident on the first two digits in the date when observed with the aid of a loupe. PCGS# 6960. NGC ID: 24ZA.
