1854-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 36-AA. Large D. Unc Details--Cleaned

1854-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 36-AA. Large D. Unc Details--Cleaned (NGC). With a relatively generous mintage of 56,143 pieces, the 1854-D numbers among the more readily obtainable Dahlonega Mint half eagles in today's market. It shares this distinction with such other issues as the 1843-D and 1845-D, although all three of these dates are rarer than the 1853-D. As well, the typical 1854-D in numismatic hands is a survivor from appreciable time spent in circulation, with most such pieces grading VF, EF or, at best, low end AU. The handful of Mint State coins known are particularly rare when viewed in the wider context of U.S. numismatics. A numismatically significant example from this popular and challenging coinage facility, this Mint State coin as certified by NGC deserves serious consideration from advanced Southern gold enthusiasts. PCGS# 8258. NGC ID: 25UK. Click here for certification details from NGC.
