"1787" (ca. 1860) Fugio Cent. "New Haven Restrike," Horatio Rust Strike. Newman-104-FF, W-17560. Rarity-3. Red Brass. AU-55 (PCGS). Blended autumn-orange and olive-brown on fully struck, minimally handled surfaces. Both sides retain plenty of bright luster in the fields. Although 19th century products, the "New Haven restrikes" are intriguing in their own right, displaying their characteristic charming triangular-jawed sunface. Based on modern research into die states for this type by Craig Sholley and John W. Dannreuther, this piece in red brass, from fabrication dies made circa 1859, is a Horatio Rust strike.
