1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape. RR-7, Bressett 5-E, W-2025. Rarity-3.

1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape. RR-7, Bressett 5-E, W-2025. Rarity-3. VERMONTENSIUM. EF-45 (PCGS). It is always a treat when we can offer a premium quality Landscape Vermont of any RR number, for the vast majority of examples in numismatic hands are far from choice. This RR-7 is a noteworthy exception, the planchet generally good hard copper that has toned originally and attractively to medium chestnut brown. We note just three dark, yet small carbon spots on the obverse within the base of the mountains near center, on the reverse just left of the eye and past the letter A in STELLA, each a result of minor impurities in the flan. Typical obverse die state with the die bulged at left center, obscuring the upper left corner of the plow and its handles. The balance of the detail on this side is impressively sharp, impression just trivially off center to 2 o'clock with denticulation complete, if thin at upper right. The reverse is more significantly off center to 3 o'clock, denticulation at right beyond the flan, strike a bit soft right of center with natural planchet roughness obscuring some of the rays and stars, although the balance of the design elements are bold to sharp. With no detracting marks, and handsome autumn-orange brown patina overall, the discerning collector would be hard pressed to find a nicer example of both the type and RR number at the Choice EF level.
