Toutes les enchères / Monnaies & billets de collection / 1786 Connecticut Copper. Miller 4.1-G, W-2525. Rarity-3. Mailed Bust

1786 Connecticut Copper. Miller 4.1-G, W-2525. Rarity-3. Mailed Bust Left. AU-53 (PCGS). CAC. 125.6 grains. Deep walnut brown with frosty luster, a bold strike, and superior eye appeal. Surfaces mostly hard and glossy, obverse with some tiny fissures on the effigy's cheek and neck, in the planchet when struck, otherwise physically sound, rim tight to tops of the letters in CONNEC, reverse with a scattering of natural planchet fissures, mostly at the center and lower portion of the seated figure, the border to the top of the letters ET, through LIB and the bottom of the date numerals. The present specimen is among the finest known for this Miller number, superior in overall appearance, in our opinion, to Taylor:218, that called "tied for third finest seen" at the time, and the ready equivalent to Ford:249 though with perhaps slightly more surface distractions than that piece. A true Condition Census example of the variety. Probably one of the final additions made to Collection SLT based on the date of the Heritage sale listed below. Not a rare variety by any stretch, but certainly rare when found so fine. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier ex Heritage's Signature Auction of April 2012, lot 7730; Stephen L. Tanenbaum; our sale of Collection SLT, January 2012 Americana Sale, lot 7096. PCGS# 331. NGC ID: 2B2G. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
