A Pair Of Gilt Allegorical Plaster Sculptures Representing Spring And Autumn.

À propos de l'objet

A pair of gilt allegorical plaster sculptures representing Spring and Autumn. Late 18th or early 19th century. Standing on a pair of painted Gustavian columns of later date. These sculptures are originally from a set of 4 representing the four seasons. Our sculpture representing Spring can be seen in the old interior photo from Skärva in the lefthand corner. Provenance: Skärva Manor (Skärfva Hergård) is the country house that shipbuilder Fredrik Henrik af Chapman (1721-1808) built on the mainland, just northwest of Karlskrona. Behind the project, Gustav III commanded Chapman to move to Karlskrona to develop a build-up for the Kingdom’s fleet. The manor house is part of the World Heritage Naval City of Karlskrona.
