1546 Estienne BIBLE Zurich Vulgate Vatablus Biblia Paris HUGE FOLIO Illustrated

À propos de l'objet

A rare, 1546 huge folio edition of Robert Estienne’s (Stephanus) ‘Biblia’. This, along with other Estienne Bibles printed in Paris were a reissue of the first 1543 Zurich version, printed in parallel columns with the Vulgate. The margins contain notes which profess to be drawn from ‘memoranda’ made by friends of the editor during the lectures of Francisco Vatablus; however, the notes were supplemented with Stephanus’s own religious beliefs – an act which landed this Bible on the Prohibited Book Index. Rare, sixth edition of the Robert Estienne Bible, published in Lutetiae (i.e. Paris) with 22 in-text and full-page engravings. Bound with the arms of François d’Argouges, Bishop of Vannes. This enormous Bible is illustrated with absolutely incredible engravings. According to Greswell, “1546 was signalized by a new Latin Bible from Robert [Estienne]’s press, in a larger form in folio, being his sixth emission. This Bible possess interest and value and was the only one of Estienne’s Latin Bibles which escaped censure- Even the orthodox Catholics are indebted to Robert Estienne for one of their most valued Latin impressions of the sacred Scriptures.” (Greswell, p.246-247) $2,950.00 In stock Add to cart Free shipping wordwide!
