George Bernard Shaw. Autograph jingle unsigned, based on notices posted in New York tram cars. 1 p., on blue paper, 7" x 4.25". Sold last at Sotheby's sale July 20, 1981, lot 583, whose description states "with a copy of a newspaper cutting explaining its origin and an envelope (probably unrelated) addressed by Shaw to Lady Gregory." Italian mathematics manuscript. 1774. 4to. 362 pp., lacking two leaves (201/2, and 265/6.) Period half sheep, binding quite worn and rubbed, tears and chips to spine, corners rounded. Contents with some light soiling and foxing in places, some faded stains but generally clean, a few leaves loose. ************************************ Containing various problems and formulas with explanations in Italian. Provenance: Front pastedown with modern presentation inscription to Walter Schirra (one of the original seven astronauts chosen for Project Mercury), as the manuscript was written by a descendant of his.
