A Group Of Ten Silhouettes including: a French or English silhouette, 19th century The reverse inscribed Charles Laudrice, seated upon Regency side chair in ceremonial robes. Together with an English Reverse Painted on Glass Conversation Silhouette, titled "The Old Cronies", depicting a theatrical scene of gentleman in an 18th century interior. the first pair, possibly French, circa 1830 each half-length right and left facing profile painted and applied to a serrated oval, both with penciled highlights, hung from pink painted ribbons on a blue paper ground, with their original festive setting and neoclassical gilt stamped brass frames. the second and third assembled pair, English, early to mid 19th century. each with left and right facing profiles, respectively. one with a paper label, J. Magor, both with bronzed highlights. the reverse of one gentleman inscribed Edward Welshma 1828. each in their original ebonized papier-mache frames with gilt clasps. early to mid 19th century the first of a portly dandy with stylized waistcoat, top hat and walking stick, the second a probable depiction of George Villiers, the 2nd Duke of Buckingham, the revere covered with a printed verse by Villiers, circa 1820. the reverse bearing an inscription identifying the portrait as Prince Stadhouaer, William of Orange, (the future King William III of England) with numerous paper labels and inventory numerals, the first, Orange Guillaume, Prince Stadhouaer, reproduced in collection ... Cert. Silo des Personage, illus; no # 36, a second, Oliver Carroll Zell, Hyannis Cape Cod, Mass. # 183R, right facing profile with a ribbon-tied wig, his jacket decorated with a multitude of pendant medals and ribbons, in an ebonized wood and gilt bead oval frame. American/English, both first half 19th century both left facing half profiles in their original ebonized papier-mâché frames with gilt clasps. Height of the first 10 in., the second 14 by 19 1/2 in. Other Notes: No known references to a silhouette artist Charles Laudrice, the inscribed name is most likely the sitter or a prior owner. Keno Auctions
