Za vernuyu sluzhbu Rodine - dostoinaya nagrada! [A Well Deserved Award for Dedicated Service to the Motherland], a poster by Mikhail Soloviev (1905-1991, Meritorious Art Worker of the Russian Federation). IZOGIZ, Moscow (printed in Leningrad), 1950, 79 x 56 cm.\n\nAn interesting poster that is likely to attract bidders' attention. It marks the establishment of the Za otlichnuyu sluzhbu po okhrane obshestvennogo poryadka [For the Meritorious Service Protecting the Public Order] medal for the personnel of the Internal Affairs Ministry (MVD, formerly NKVD). The medal was bestowed on Soviet policemen and members of the paramilitary Internal Forces that distinguished themselves in crime prevention and battling crime and social ills.\n\nArtist Mikhail Soloviev was a favorite student of P. Sokolov-Skalia at the AKhR Studios. Before the war, he took part in several monumental art projects headed by his teacher. During WWII, Sokolov-Skalia invited him to work for TASS Windows; this work launched Sokolov's career as a political poster artist. He eventually became the head of the Art Council of the AgitPlakat artists' collective, and in 1970s was the Posters Section chairman of the Moscow Artists Union.\n\nSearch extension words: Russian poster, Soviet poster.
