Romanee conti 1971 domaine de la romanee-conti

Romanee Conti 1971 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Cote de Nuits, Grand Cru u. 1x3cm, 2x4cm, 1x4.5cm, 1x5cm, magnum #s 129, 133, 137, 138 and 167, good color and clarity, heavily damp soiled labels, 4 slightly damaged neck labels, 1 neck label has remnants only, 1 slightly corroded capsule In the past, I have sometimes been disappointed by this wine, finding it dry, but in 2010 there was a bottle direct from the Domaine that was hauntingly delicious. It had a liqueur-like nose and was mature and even nutty on the palate, with that inimitable long, lingering finish that is a strong signature. One dwelt on it for as long as possible! Serena Sutcliffe, MW Lot 59 5 mags (cn) per lot: HKD 800000-1200000 per lot: USD 104000-155000 ROMANEE CONTI 1.80 ha (4.32 acres), average production: 450 cases, average age of vines: 52 years In 1760, the Prince de Conti bought the lower part of La Romanee, and a myth was born. The de Villaine and Leroy families acquired Romanee-Conti in 1850 and they still own and run the Domaine jointly. It is interesting that in 1850 Romanee-Conti was estate bottled - then this ceased for a period and restarted in 1911. Thus, the essence of Romanee-Conti was captured but, in my view, never tamed! It is a wild, extraordinary wine, unpredictable and constantly mutating as it matures, but always true to its indubitably great self. The care lavished on Romanee-Conti is shown to all the wines of the Domaine, but the breed and refinement in the taste of Romanee-Conti would point to an indefinable "something extra" in this 1.80 ha plot. Tradition is respected (Romanee-Conti is always vinified in wooden vat number 17 which dates from 1862), but not blindly revered for its own sake. Short pruning, organic fertilizer, low yields, high average age of vines, late picking, selection of grapes, long fermentation with natural yeasts, 70-100% vin de presse added to give quality tannins and good acidity, new Troncais oak barrels from wood the Domaine dries itself, almost no racking (and then only by gravity), fining with 3-4 egg whites per cask only in some years according to the character of the vintage, no filtration - all this is taken for granted. But Romanee-Conti is more than the total of a mass of intricate manoeuvres - it is the pure silk and intoxicating aromas and flavours that appear, as if by magic, from mere marl and limestone. Serena Sutcliffe, MW. The Domaine, as it is known, is iconic. Much more important, it also produces the most extraordinary wines in Burgundy - and it has been doing so for a long time. The generations responsible for the Domaine change, but the terroir remains. And these are very special vineyard parcels indeed, married to meticulous care and philosophy leading to low yields and healthy, ripe grapes, at whatever cost. From the 1990s, vineyard policy has been organic, with co-owner Aubert de Villaine monitoring everything with his usual attention to detail. Domaine de la Romanee-Conti wines evolve and develop dimensions in a way that resembles a mosaic - points of bouquet and flavour making up a harmonious whole that becomes more beautiful as it unfolds in the glass. Yes, these are hedonistic wines and yes, they are not like any other. The trick is in capturing what these remarkable plots of vines can give and letting them express themselves through minimum intervention and enlightened nurturing. Serena Sutcliffe, MW

Romanée-Conti 1985

AN EXTRAORDINARY ORIGINAL WOODEN CASE OF MAGNUMS OF ROMANEE-CONTI 1985 IN PRISTINE CONDITION Vintage 1985 ***** One of my favourite burgundy vintages. Certainly some of my most consistently glowing notes. The weather conditions were interesting: unprecedented low temperatures in January, snow in February delaying budding but minimizing the risk of late frosts. Delayed flowering; June and July were fairly normal but, from the first week in August, heat and drought, then hail storms. From 1 September constant sunshine. A ripe, healthy crop and one of the best vintages in most grower's memories. A wide range of '85s tasted... they demonstrate the , superiority and extra depth of the grand, crus the quality of 1er crus as well as, even in a vintage like this, the variations between village wines. MB, Vintage Wine Romanée-Conti--Vintage 1985 Côte de Nuits, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Numbers 37,38,39,40,41,42 Levels: 2cm or less In original wooden case, banded, prior to inspection "The Romanee-Conti is utterly mind blowing. The heady, intoxicating bouquet delivered penetrating and sublime aromas that were even more intense than those from the La Tache. On the palate, there is a veritable smorgasbord of earthly and heavenly delights. Needless to say, it is very rich, very opulent, and very concentrated. Red burgundy and red wine do not get any better than this." Robert Paker, Burgundy Book (1990) 6 magnums per lot

Château Mouton-Rothschild 1945

Château Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1945 Pauillac, 1er cru classé Lightly damp-stained labels, five with remains of original tissues stuck to them. Levels: two top, three just below top-shoulder, four upper, two mid/upper and one mid-shoulder Tasting note: A consistent 100-point wine (only because my point scale stops at that number), the 1945 Mouton-Rothschild is truly one of the immortal wines of the century. This wine is easily identifiable because of its remarkably exotic, over-ripe, sweet nose of black fruits, coffee, tobacco, mocha, and Asian spices. It is an extraordinarily dense, opulent, and rich wine, with layers of creamy fruit, behaveing more like a 1947 Pomerol than a structured, powerful, and tannic 1945. The wine finishes with a 60+ second display of ripe fruit, extract, and sweet tannin. This remarkably youthful wine (only light amber at the edge) is mindboggling! Will it last another 50 years? Robert Parker, Jan 1998 Tasting note: One of the greatest clarets of all time, certainly the most distinctive. Dozens of notes made since 1954, 10 within the last 2 years. Virtually identical notes made in the autumn of 2005: still impressively deep with a jewel-like ruby sheen; inimitably exotic bouquet, an eruption of spice, eucalyptus, lavender and violets; amazingly sweet, wonderful fruit, concentrated yet vivacious, crisp, endless length. Still tannic. 6 stars ! Seemingly indestructible. Michael Broadbent M.W., Nov 2005 12 bottles per lot

Romanee conti 1999 domaine de la romanee-conti

Romanee Conti 1999 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Cote de Nuits, Grand Cru Bottle #s 4931-4942, 1 nicked label, otherwise excellent appearance La Tache may have the grandeur and the flamboyance in this vintage, but Romanee-Conti has the balance, the breed and the endless finish. DRC really did attain perfection this year, for which they can be justifiably proud, while we can be eternally grateful. It is the power and the nobility of bouquet and taste that really set these wines apart in 1999 and Romanee-Conti itself epitomises these qualities. Serena Sutcliffe, MW.
